You can't reason with hurricane season.

It is impossible to live anywhere in Florida or along the Gulf Coast without contemplating severe
weather protection for your home or office, and what products you may want to purchase to achieve
those ends. During the 2004 season alone, Hurricanes Charlie, Frances, Jeanne and Ivan came
ashore at various sites in Florida and Alabama, bringing home the point that no place in this area is
immune from the ravages of violent weather. The combined damage from these four storms totaled
in the billions of dollars, and over 100 people lost their lives.

Protect Your Home or Office from Violent Weather.

There are many storm protection products available today. All of them have merit; however, many
of them also have severe drawbacks.

Shutters provide good "hard shell" protection, but can really detract from the looks of a home;
especially if they conflict with the architectural design. Storm panels need to be installed for every
storm, since many communities will not let you put them up for "the season". When not up, they
need to be stored. "Roll down" and "accordion" styles have maintenance considerations. They
should be checked every year, or they can corrode and jam, just when you need them most. When
deployed they leave your home pitch dark inside. Plywood can warp, and become impossible to
install.

Most importantly you have to think about what "level of participation" you want to contribute.
    ● Do you live out-of-state?
    ● How are you going to install these systems if you are not there? Ask a neighbor?
       Hire someone?
    ● Many of our senior residents are not physically capable of installing these products, nor is it
safe for them to do so.
    ● Do you have adequate storage for them when they are not installed?

Violent Weather and Safety Film.

The one product that addresses all of these drawbacks is Safety and Security Window Film.
Permanently installed and highly resistant to impact and penetration, safety film operates on
multiple levels; reducing heat, glare, and fading as well as strengthening the glass and keeping it
together if it is struck and broken. Unprotected glass becomes deadly flying shards. Once a window
is breached, the interior pressure from the wind can blow out more windows, and eventually tear off
the roof. Water damage from driven rain can be devastating; destroying furnishings, carpet,
drywall, and your most prized possessions.

Window film doesn't need to be stored. It's already installed! No rushing around at the last minute
preparing for a disaster. You can concentrate on the safety of your family and pets. After the storm
passes, it is there to protect you by deterring theft and looters.

No other protection product functions on so many levels. Shutters, panels, and plywood are not
going to save energy and lower your electric bill; they're not going to make you more comfortable,
and they won't reduce fading. Only safety film can do all that and protect your windows as well – at
a price that is considerably less than traditional storm protection products. Contact Solar-X today
for a free, no obligation consultation!

What Level of Protection Can You Expect?

Safety and Security Film can give you excellent protection when applied by true professionals.
However, as it applies to so-called "hurricane" protection, safety film is not a "stand alone" product.
It is part of an overall glazing system – frame, glass, and mounting; and all three must be strong in
order to have any chance of real protective capability. Simply applying safety film to the glass
surface of a window does not make a window "hurricane resistant", nor will it make it "Miami-Dade
compliant!" Beware of contractors who claim to have "Hurricane" films or make claims that sound
outrageous – they probably are! Please read our manufacturer's statement entitled "Safety-
Security Film and Hurricane Protection" for complete information, and please don't hesitate to call
Solar-X if you have any questions whatsoever about the use of safety film for a specific
application.

SAFETY - SECURITY FILM AND
HURRICANE PROTECTION
For many years safety and
security film have provided
significant protection for glass in
windows and doors when
exposed to hurricane conditions.
 Although this protection has
been documented in real life
conditions and proven in tests,
the application of the film on
glass is not considered a "storm
mitigation" device by building
codes, nor some insurance
regulations.  The current
building codes for new
construction require that the
entire system be tested if a
material such as film is applied
to glass.  This would mean that
we would have to test each and
every type of window and door
in the market place to which the
film could be applied and this is
just not possible.  What we have
done is to test our 8-Mil film to
the same standards as used by
the Florida Building Code in
order to determine its
performance.
